I’m Elle Davis, a third year law student at Fordham University School of Law. Censorchip is a blog that will explore the cross section of First Amendment freedoms and technology. Much more nuanced than one may expect, this intersection of the law is still underdeveloped and provides a new frontier with each burgeoning technology. Questions arise around what truly constitutes speech in a new tech driven world, including expressive speech on social media, prior restraint on the “press,” (self)-censorship of citizens and more. In a tumultuous time not only for our country, but particularly for First Amendment freedoms, I hope to answer some questions, while also stir up some more.
“The Framers of the Constitution knew that free speech is the friend of change and revolution. But they also knew that it is always the deadliest enemy of tyranny.” Hugo Black
